June 23, 2010 : Death Of The Undying… Awesome!

There is a shortage of solid anime on TV nowadays, which is unfortunate considering a few years ago it was getting fairly popular among mainstream audiences.

Despite decreasing the quantity and quality of shows in this genre, Adult Swim is at least airing Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The series more  closely follows the manga compared to its predecessor.

Badass Extraordinaire

Last weekend, Adult Swim aired Death Of The Undying – and… that… episode… rocked.

Got a light?

I miss watching really great anime, and this episode reminded me why.

On a side note, Louie premieres on FX next week. I’m a fan of Louie C.K.’s stand up – plus FX has had some pretty solid comedies in the past few years. Those are reasons enough to be optimistic about the show… that and the fact that I have to wait a few more months to see new Venture Bros.

August 21, 2009 : FX Kicking It Up A Notch

Like many basic cable networks, FX is trying to expand it’s original programming slate. Until now it predominantly aired dramas, which is odd since everybody knows that is TNT’s bag – after all, they know drama.

FX already has one of my favorite shows in It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

This pic always cracks me up

As a side note, the new season premieres September 17 (insert giddy school girl laugh here).

Recently, FX has worked on getting new comedies to complement Sunny and build its comedic schedule. One show of note, is “Louie” – which stars the hilarious Louis C.K. He also will serve as executive producer, writer, and director of the series. The show is expected to come out in early 2010. An interesting side note: Louis C.K. portrayed Brendon Small’s estranged father in Home Movies.

Speaking of animated shows (one that was on Cartoon Network), another show that FX has greenlit is Archer. It’s creator is Adam Reed who co-created Adult Swim shows Sealab 2021 and Frisky Dingo. The cast is pretty stellar, including H. Jon Benjamin (the Home Movies comment earlier seems that much cooler now, doesn’t it?), Chris Parnell, and two Arrested Development alums: Jessica Walter (Lucille Bluth) and Judy Greer (Kitty). FX ordered 6 episodes of Archer, which should air this fall. By the way, the above link about the show also has a two minute clip for the show.
