October 28, 2008 : Happy Diwali
Today, part of the world will observe The Fesitival of Lights – also known as Diwali. It is celebrated by many Indian religions (Hindiusm and Jainism amongst to more popular ones). Frankly, besides knowing a few people who celebrate this holiday, I am not all that familiar with the festival.Â
However, I did have the pleasure of reading the Mahabharata a while back. This is a series of Hindu Epics, very similar in style to what one would read in Greek or Roman Mythology. As one might expect, there are a lot of religious lessons included throughout the book; but ultimately it details a great story of good versus evil, and it is highly recommended.
As a side note, my personal favorite character is Arjuna. The guy is just so Bad Ass (and in describing him, it warrants the capitalization).
