July 29, 2014 : The Universe’s Take On Time Travel… Awful
I’ll be honest, I was torn on whether or not to watch The Universe’s episode discussing ‘Time Travel’. Like many non-reality shows on The History Channel (and H2), The Universe can be pretty interesting. Plus, the graphics and animations accompanying the material is impressive. On the other hand, I am not a fan of time travel (my rant about its obvious logical inconsistencies and blatant overuse in film and television will have to wait for another time).
Despite that, I gave it a shot. That was a mistake.
Good episodes of The Universe have a great deal of science and information involved. However, these were predominantly the earlier episodes. Later seasons of the series were grasping at straws and weren’t very educational (or interesting). So with this episode being in the 5th season, I should have realized it was going to be lacking in content.
It seemed more like an episode of Ancient Aliens – wildly speculative with no facts or logic to back it up. In fact, the second half of the episode talked more about space travel (hinting toward the concept of forward time travel via time dilation).
So as I should have expected, my disdain for time travel remains in place. If anything, I was disappointed in The Universe for having an episode on it (and doing it so poorly). On the plus side, there were some cool graphics.
