Undoubtedly one of the more highly anticipated films this summer is Star Wars: The Clone Wars<\/a> – a new CGI animated movie from LucasFilm Animation.\u00c2\u00a0 Now the\u00c2\u00a0poor reception of the new prequels notwithstanding, one of the bright spots during this time had to have been the Clone Wars Series<\/a> that took place between the releases of these less than stellar prequels.\u00c2\u00a0 The success of the earlier series was definitely attributable to the involvement of Genndy Tartakovsky<\/a> -\u00c2\u00a0the talented animator and director behind Samurai Jack.<\/p>\n

With the recent release of the trailer<\/a> for the new Clone Wars\u00c2\u00a0Movie, it is apparent that the original style (and Genndy’s presence) is missing.\u00c2\u00a0 I was personally a huge fan of Genndy’s series – both the story and the character design was impressive.\u00c2\u00a0 The trailer for the new movie has been a little disappointing.\u00c2\u00a0 The character design\u00c2\u00a0is 3D; and while this is a departure from the\u00c2\u00a0original series, it could have still looked great if done well.\u00c2\u00a0 However, it seems that the design was poorly done (at least in my opinion).<\/p>\n

This doesn’t spell doom for the movie – or\u00c2\u00a0the 100+ episode series<\/a> on Cartoon Network expected to follow the movie’s release.\u00c2\u00a0 However, it certainly digs a hole for itself.\u00c2\u00a0 A solid story and a proper execution of it\u00c2\u00a0trumps anything else when it comes to a series or movie, and animation certainly is no exception.\u00c2\u00a0 However, with the three recent live-action disappointments, I am beginning to worry that this is the new\u00c2\u00a0trend for the franchise and the original Clone Wars Series\u00c2\u00a0was\u00c2\u00a0the exception to the rule.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
