{"id":113,"date":"2008-10-02T10:26:49","date_gmt":"2008-10-02T16:26:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pivisuals.com\/news\/?p=113"},"modified":"2011-04-28T21:30:43","modified_gmt":"2011-04-29T03:30:43","slug":"the-revolution-will-be-televised","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pivisuals.com\/news\/2008\/10\/the-revolution-will-be-televised\/","title":{"rendered":"The Revolution Will Be Televised"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>They say all good things must come to an end.\u00c2\u00a0 Apparently that is also true about great things.\u00c2\u00a0 Unfortunatley, after eleven years, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Toonami\" target=\"_blank\">Toonami<\/a> has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toonamiarsenal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">aired its final episode<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Even though\u00c2\u00a0this programming block on Cartoon Network has long since peaked, it was an incredibly innovative and successful franchise.\u00c2\u00a0 It helped fuel the mainstream interest of anime in America and acted as a precursor to Adult Swim.<\/p>\n<p>While it reminded people of cool shows from their past (Thundercats, Voltron, Batman: The Animated Series), Toonami extended beyond nostalgic programming by introducing a lot of incredible shows (Dragon Ball Z, ReBoot, Gundam Wing, Justice League&#8230;the list could go on).<\/p>\n<p>During its peak, everything about it screamed quality:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The 3D bumps were top notch.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 TOM and SARA always looked cool.\u00c2\u00a0 They even had Moltar in it for a while.<\/li>\n<li>The Midnight Run was awesome &#8211; Gundam Wing Uncut?\u00c2\u00a0 It didn&#8217;t get any better than that.<\/li>\n<li>The Rising Sun was a good way to go to bed (&#8220;Here&#8217;s your wake up call&#8221;).<\/li>\n<li>Their promos were amazing.\u00c2\u00a0 &#8216;Pardon Our Dust&#8217; was editing perfection.<\/li>\n<li>The In Flight Movies every Friday were a real joy &#8211; ranging from cool Batman\/Superman crossovers to the Endless Waltz, how could you not love it?<\/li>\n<li>Kudos on airing &#8216;The Month of Miyazaki&#8217;.\u00c2\u00a0 His movies definitely deserved their props.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Again, its cancellation was probably long overdue.\u00c2\u00a0 Especially since\u00c2\u00a0lately the Toonami block was relegated to airing derivative shows only once a week.\u00c2\u00a0 However, in its prime, it was simply incredible.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, its footprint can be\u00c2\u00a0seen in many places\u00c2\u00a0&#8211; and not just on Cartoon Network.\u00c2\u00a0 Toonami showed how programming and marketing should be done.\u00c2\u00a0 They built a solid fan base, and then they expanded it&#8230;a lot.\u00c2\u00a0 Plus, they spawned several programming blocks, some of which were on other networks.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, even though it&#8217;s gone, Toonami will not be forgotten.\u00c2\u00a0 It was an accomplishment that people should be proud of &#8211; and thankful for.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Bang.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pivisuals.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/toonami1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pivisuals.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/toonami1.jpg\" alt=\"Bang\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So long, Tom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>They say all good things must come to an end.\u00c2\u00a0 Apparently that is also true about great things.\u00c2\u00a0 Unfortunatley, after eleven years, Toonami has aired its final episode.
