April 15, 2008 : Holy Awesome Direct-To-DVD Movies, Batman!!!
Good news, Batman fans. There looks to be a pretty sweet animated direct-to-DVD anthology film due out in July. It is entitled Batman: Gotham Knight, and it looks pretty sweet.
The link above is to the official page. The trailer can be viewed here.
Apparently, the premise is six animated shorts that is set between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. No doubt, this is partially used to garner some attention for The Dark Knight, which is due out in theaters a few weeks after this DVD will be released.
Surely this is reminiscent of the Animatrix; and along those same lines, the DVD is taking an anime take on Batman – something that looks really interesting. After all, there are few Japanese stylistic perspectives on American Heroes…it mostly goes the other way around. Being a huge anime fan, and Batman is my favorite DC/Marvel hero, this looks to be sweet.
And for the icing on the cake, Kevin Conroy will be voicing Batman once again. Something that hasn’t been the case recently (an example that jumps to mind is the direct-to-video release of Justice League: The New Frontier). And for the cherry on top, Will Friedle will also be in a few of the stories. While he won’t be playing Terry McGinnis from Batman Beyond, there is nothing wrong with some Eric Matthews now and then (up top!).
